It\u2019s certainly true that there has been unease from lots of \nMPs for some time about how long Diane Abbott\u2019s suspension has lasted – and that \nunease has spread across the Labour Party, far beyond Abbott\u2019s usual allies on \nthe left.<\/p>\n
There are some who think that her apology should have been sufficient \nfor her to be readmitted as it has been in some other disciplinary cases.<\/p>\n
Others think that it was right that Abbott\u2019s time as an MP was drawing to a \nclose but that the process has been needlessly fractious and undignified, \nespecially given her status as a trailblazer.<\/p>\n
However, it\u2019s worth remembering that Labour MPs are now \nscattered around the country campaigning in their local areas.<\/p>\n
Backlashes \nusually build in Parliament when MPs get together to vent – that is physically \nharder now.<\/p>\n
In addition, lots of Labour MPs will be wary about attacking Labour leader Keir Starmer or his team during an election campaign, for fear that it will \ndamage his standing with the public.<\/p>\n
