The Lib Dems opposed the Labour government\u2019s decision to withdraw the winter fuel allowance from millions of pensions, in a Commons vote last week.<\/p>\n
But the Lib Dems have not toned down their hostility towards Conservatives, who lost 60 seats to them at the election.<\/p>\n
The Lib Dems say there are 57 constituencies where they need fewer than 10,000 votes to win and most of them are held by the Conservatives.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Sir Ed said it was his party\u2019s job to \u201cconsign the Conservative Party to the history books\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said they have chances to \u201cfinish the job\u201d in county council elections next May, and \u201cacross the country in the years to come\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a personal section of the speech, Sir Ed spoke about looking after his mum when she had cancer, and his son John, who has a neurological condition and learning difficulties.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cwe won\u2019t save the NHS, if we don\u2019t sort out care\u201d and urged the prime minister to work him with on this issue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

While the speech mainly focused on the NHS, it did include an endorsement of US Vice-President Kamala Harris\u2019s candidacy for the presidency. It received one of the loudest rounds of applause.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the looming spectre of a second Trump presidency,\u201d Sir Ed said. \u201cHow I hope and pray to see Kamala Harris defeat him this November.\u201d<\/p>\n
His speech drew the clearest dividing lines with Labour yet, and signalled the party\u2019s direction of travel in this Parliament.<\/p>\n
In his closing remarks, Sir Ed said: \u201cLet\u2019s offer real hope. Let\u2019s build a brighter future. And let\u2019s keep on winning, so we can make it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
